There’s one thing which has been in my shaving regime since a teenager, and that’s post shave balm.
But I have heard plenty of people not using this product after a shave, which seems crazy to me.
I’m going to talk about exactly what is post shave balm, how do you use it and why you should make this part of your shaving routine.
What Is Post Shave Balm
Post shave balm is a lotion which you apply to your face and neck after you shave. This is also known as aftershave balm, and differs from what’s traditionally known as an aftershave as it’s a thicker more creamy solution.
It helps prevent razor burn, and keeps your face and skin feeling smooth and cool. Different balms have different ingredients, but many feature things such as aloe vera, well known to soothe your skin.
When it comes to skincare, this is one of those products I swear by. When I ask other guys about it, plenty of them don’t use it. If I stopped I think my skin would feel irritated or prickly, or otherwise feel naked.
I promise once you start using it, you’ll not want to stop.
It’s good if you have sensitive skin, but even if you have normal skin, it’s good to keep it feeling cool after shaving.
The Best Post Shave Balm
I’ve already talked about the best post shave balm, so check that out if you haven’t. I remember one of the first post shave balms I used was the NIVEA For Men post shave balm. These days I use a wide range, still dipping into the NIVEA but also using other brands too.
How To Use Post Shave Balm
It’s really easy to use post shave balm. Here’s a step by step guide on how to apply it.
- Shave in your usual way
- Once finished, clean any shaving product from your face towling and patting down your face
- Put a small amount of post shave balm into your hands
- Apply the post shave balm to your face and neck and massage into your skin
- Finished!
And that’s it. You don’t wash it off or rub it off. It should stay massaged into your skin like a regular moisturiser would be.
There really is nothing to using post shave balm, and your face will thank you.
The end result is your face will feel a lot cooler, and your skin will also be smoother.
