Sex, drugs and rock n roll…and more drugs, and more rock n roll
SKY Atlantic have been teasing us with the latest release from HBO for a few months now, and last night Vinyl finally got it made it’s debut on TV. If you’ve ever wondered what you’d get if you cross music royalty aka Mick Jagger with film royalty aka Martin Scorsese, this is the TV show we’ve ended up with.
Essentially this is a period drama set in New York City in the 70s, and it surrounds the music industry of the day. I love Empire, and this is a similar type of show, but from the first episode it looks a hell of a lot more raw and edgy, and obviously different genres of music. The start of the story has focused on Richie Finestra, who is a record exec of his own label, American Century which is struggling, and is negotiating a buy-out from a German record label. Other characters which we’ve seen in the first show are Scott Leavitt, Julian Silver, Skip Fontaine, Clark Morelle and Zak Yankovich, who are all key people at American Century, Jamie Vine, a young girl who wants to impress at the label by getting them to sign a band, The Nasty Bits, fronted by Kip Stevens. Lester Grimes also looks to be a key character, the first show has flashbacks between him and Richie, who he used to manage, then left behind when he started his own label.
On the first episode Vinyl looks like it’s going to be a good watch, I am looking forward to seeing what’s in store next week. 🙂
Did you watch it? What did you think?
If you haven’t watched it, catch up! It’s on Monday’s at 9PM on SKY Atlantic.
