This week’s scent review I’ve dug out 212 MEN. It was actually my 2nd scent of Carolina Herrera, I got it quite a while after I bought 212 Sexy MEN, since I really liked that. I actually did blind buy this, and did buy it on the strength that I liked Sexy MEN a lot, so thought that I would try another from Carolina Herrera.
It’s another one from the late 90’s, it was launched in 1999 but is still available to buy today.
I’ve written about this fashion trend before, but I thought since it was 2015 I would give it a bit of a reboot. I am talking about cricket jumpers in fashion. I really like this and have done for a number of years. They work well in the cooler months of the Spring and Autumn, and since we’re right in Spring with crisp weather, there’s no better time to talk about them.Read More
Lynx has unveiled it’s latest collection, Lynx Black, which is all about creating an understated style. In a world which is getting ever-louder, Lynx believes that a subtle approach is the way forward, flipping the script, it’s all about bringing the quiet.
The range comprises of a Body Spray, Antiperspirant, Shampoo and Hair Clay which embrace the individual style of city streets. The packaging goes back to basics, with a minimal, sleek black colours throughout, giving it a refined look.
This embodies the scent which is of the same style, a sophisticated and masculine scent which encourages guys to embrace a personal style.
The scent was developed by iconic fragrance expert, Ann Gottlieb, who created one of the most legendary men’s fragrance ever, CK One. The premium new Lynx Black scent opens with fresh notes of Watermelon Ester, bergamot and frozen pear – evoking a sleek, sophisticated aroma. Combined with fresh fruits and a blend of moss, cedar wood and patchouli, the scent is complex, yet a subtle fragrance.
Lynx Black is all about guys showcasing their own personal style, exuding confidence with a minimal style. I will be showcasing my own understated look, perfect for a night out on the town, with a quiet, toned down yet smart and sleek look, laid back but maintaining a stylish edge.
The Lynx Black collection is in stores now, with body spray costing around £3.29, shower gel from around £2.54 and the casual styling clay costing around £4.29.
What a nice day it has been so far! We had the sun, then we sort of didn’t…Then we did again! If you were late getting up, live in a place where you couldn’t see it or simply didn’t know, today we had a solar eclipse which was partially visible in the UK. It was most visible in places just North of the UK, like the Faroe Islands, but in Newcastle and the North of the UK, we saw 90% or more of the eclipse…It was pretty cool! 😀
I remember in 1999 there was a total eclipse in the Summer, but only from the South of the country, places like Cornwall. I remember there was such excitement over it, and I remember them covering it on The Big Breakfast and telling you to wear some special glasses (I think they’d given some away LOL). Back then I did not really see much, but this time I did!
Here’s the shots I got on my camera. I am no expert (clearly!) but I am happy with the shots I got…I’ve seen some others and they were not very good at all! 😛 Sadly it was not a clear sky where I was, there were clouds but I did manage to get a few shots. It was supposed to all happen at 09:30, luckily I was out before that and saw the very start and end of it. I took so many shots! Changing settings, angles and so on, and I think these few are among the best ones I have. I am forever learning photography so it was fun and challenging taking photos like this, something I’ve never done before, and playing around with all the settings on manual. I’ve previously taken night shots when searching for the Northern Lights but this was quite different.
I had taken a few with my wide angle lens, it wasn’t good for the job, so I used my telephoto lens which I rarely use…I am so glad I bought it now!

For this week’s men’s fragrance review I have dug this out of my collection. I can’t say it’s one of my favourites, as you can tell from the amount left in the bottle, but that doesn’t mean it’s not nice. This is D&G Masculine from Dolce and Gabbana. It’s said to be discontinued now, but can still be found in some places.
Whether you’re a Newcastle night out veteran, you’re new to going out or you’re up here in Newcastle out for a good time, the dress code is probably something you’re thinking about.
It’s something to consider, however there is no need to stress out about what to wear.
If you’re going out to pubs, bars, clubs or all three, Newcastle has a fairly casual dress code, as long as you look presentable and you’re not falling all over drunk.
Taking inspiration from the mainline range, Ted Baker has unveiled it’s T for Tall collection for men, teaming up once again with swimming champ, Mark Foster. The collection features key pieces for this summer, from smart casual to tailored pieces, all cut specifically to fit the 6’3″ – 6’6″ man. We say time and again that one of the most important aspects of clothing and fashion is the fit, this season Ted Baker comes with key pieces including trademark floral prints, oversize checks and pattern knits, as well as more toned down contemporary styles.
A couple of week’s ago I wrote about Jean Paul Gaultier’s first and most infamous male scent, Le Male. After really enjoying this scent I got Fleur Du Male when it was released in 2007. All the classic JPG trademarks are present; From the torso shaped body to the tin style of box this fragrance comes in.
With this following on from a much loved scent, it had a lot to live up to.
This week’s fragrance review takes a look at something a little older which is still available to buy today; 212 Sexy Men by Carolina Herrera. This scent was released in 2006, and I bought it not soon after. It was in fact the very first fragrance I bought from Carolina Herrera, and a one which I loved.
As you will know if you are a regular reader of my blog, I went to Icelandin the Autumn of last year. It’s a great place, with a big variety of things to do, and with each different type of activity, different clothing may be required, and it will also depend on what time of the year you’re going.
Will you be spending more time in the city of Reykjavik or are you getting a secluded cabin out in the countryside? Packing the right things can be challenging, especially when you’re going somewhere for the first time.
