We won the Carabao Cup!
It’s the day after and it’s still hard to believe. 70 years since the last domestic cup and 56 years since a European trophy, Newcastle United are the Carabao Cup winners.
It was a nail biting finish, but Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1, with goals from Big Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
Here’s how it went down.
Newcastle didn’t only win, they deserved to win. They were better in all aspects of the game, defence, midfield and attack. Creating chances and scoring a goal right before half time and then one after, going 2-0 up into 90 minutes.
We actually scored three goals, Isak had a goal before going 2-0 up. Isak put the ball into the net and it was brilliant. But it was disallowed by VAR for an offside. Bruno was judged to be stood in front of the keeper and was offside.
Liverpool pulled a goal back with Chiesa in the 94th minute, making it a tense finish. But Newcastle made it through to win the cup and create history.
Newcastle were simply the better team on the day. The entire team played well, Pope done well when he had to, the defence was great, especially Tino Livramento who kept Salah quiet all game, the midfield won every battle, the front three were great, and that was that.
I was debating which Newcastle shirt to wear while watching the match, but went for this.
The limited edition long sleeve Newcastle United Adidas Shirt from the lifestyle collection. I love this shirt even more now!
