What do you get when you combine MSCHF, Lil Naz X, a pair of Nike Air Max 97’s and some real blood? Lots of controversy.
MSCHF dropped a new creation in collaboration with rapper Lil Naz X, a pair of custom Nike Air Max 97 trainers dubbed the Satan Shoes.
They did have a special ingredient: Real blood. We’ve seen some crazy and cool trainers this month, but this has to be right up there as the most insane.
The black and red trainers sported lots of devilish and things you’d expect from the dark side. Not only the colour, but lots of design aspects which makes the trainers live up to their Satan name.
An upside down cross with a bronze pentagram and Luke 10:18 branding which denotes a passage from the bible (which reads He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.)
And there’s a matter of blood. MSCHF said that there’s a drop of human blood in each one, which is in the air sole which is also filled with 60cc of ink.
The trainers are also individually numbered, with 666 pairs being created. They cost $1,018 and it’s said they sold out in less than a minute.
There’s one big thing about this story – They’re not officially a Nike release, with the brand reportedly taking legal action against the creators. [source]
According to Hypebeast, Nike said: ” “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes, and we do not endorse them,”
Thoughts on this one?
I think it’s a cool and edgy concept, and the design is pretty nice, but that’s about all from me. I can’t say I’d be lining up to buy trainers with blood in them, and I guess the edgy creative combined with the limited availability really sold it for sneakerheads.
But I do think the Air Max 97 Satans will be remembered and possibly a collectors item in years to come if they aren’t already.
