Life After Lockdown – It’s Weird!

Wearing My Retro Italy Diadora Football Shirt

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since I posted a life type of update, possibly because not a lot has been going on for any of us!

Lockdown has been a strange time, and I think life after lockdown it is going to feel weird. I have been living in the lock down for around 13 weeks, but this week I have started to gradually to come out of it, and trying to get back to some normality.

For the first time I had to go to the shop, which felt so strange. It was like going to a shop for the first time in my life. I had no idea what to expect, how things would work, or anything like that.

For the past few months I have been doing what most of us have been doing, and buying things online. We’re all no stranger to online shopping, I’ve done it plenty of times. But It used to be a convenience, and now it’s turned into a necessity.

I have of course left the house, but it’s always just to do some exercise and go on walks. This is something which I’ve done for years, so there was no change in that…Apart from avoiding people as much as possible! I have only drove 2 or three times, which kind of felt new again.

So going to the shop…I had to send something out so it was the post office which is attached to the shop. They were only letting in 4 people at a time, which was strange because you don’t know how many people are in until you’re in there…Unless they have someone on the door which I’ve seen some shops do.

The shops are also open a bit sporadically, I asked if they were open back to normal but they said they didn’t know what was happening.

But from Monday we’re returning to something of a normality, or what’s going to become the new normal. Most shops will be open from Monday, but not like they used to. Social distancing, wearing masks, and in general everyone taking extra care and avoiding people as much as possible.

Although the non-essential shops will be open and things are trying to return to normal, I don’t think it will be for a long time. I can’t see myself going out as normal, using public transport and going out, it just feels too soon for me.

Euro 2020 was supposed to start yesterday too, so I am gutted that we’ve missed a summer of international football. The opening game would have been Italy vs Turkey in Rome.

I love the summer, but I think the summer of 2020 will be a right off. There’s no holidays to look forward to or plan, and more or less no chance of doing abroad. Even if you’re permitted, it’s not something I’d want to do right now.

Bars and restaurants are closed, and even when they’re allowed to open, I don’t think they’ll be the same, and I think I’ll be avoiding them for quite a while. I’m not sure how a busy bar or night club will work with social distancing.

So it’s sad to say I think the summer was over before it began.

When will we return to some kind of real normality? Who knows!
