Quite a while back I got this new t-shirt, but we’ve not had the weather to wear them this season. I’m slowly getting round to reviewing my new tees, and this time round I’m taking a look at my brand new Fred Perry black and striped t-shirt.
Here’s everything you need to know, how it fits and feels and if it’s worth getting.
When it comes to clothing when I think of Fred Perry I think of 2 things: Polo shirts and that laurel wreath logo. This is a t-shirt, rather than a polo top, but it does have that classic Fred Perry logo to the front.
The T-Shirt Design
The T-shirt is black, but rather than it being plain, it comes with stripes. This is another key detail that Fred Perry does well, and it’s something they’ve incorporated into so many of their designs.
Stripes can be hard to pull off in design, but I like how this one has been done.
There’s a range of thin and thick stripes, in a range of colours such as white, yellow, grey and this dark olive green type of colour that really works.
The Fit
It’s a standard fit t-shirt, and I really like the feel of the fit.
The t-shirt is finished with a ribbed hem, ribbed neckline as well as ribbed cuffs on the sleeves. This gives it a closer to the body type of fit, without it being too fitted.
I’d likely call this semi-fitted, as it’s close to the body, but it doesn’t hug, so not super fitted, but not baggy either by any stretch of the imagination.
All in all when it comes to the fit, I like it.
How It Feels
The tee itself is made of pique cotton, which you can see in the close up. That means it’s not a smooth cotton, rather it has that textured, honeycomb pattern weaved into the material.
This is usually seen in polos, but can be used on a casual t-shirt as seen here.
It still feels really soft, but it has a slightly more premium feel to it, still a super soft cotton tee, but with some added dimension with the pique fabric.
What To Wear With This Black Fred Perry T Shirt
In terms of putting together an outfit, I will wear this t-shirt as part of any casual outfit.
The stripes on this tee make it lean more into the casual side rather than smart casual, and that’s no bad thing. But the stripes are tastefully done, and the fit makes it almost edge into a smart-casual tee.
I can wear this in the summer in combination with a light pair of jeans as seen here, or opt for a pair of chinos which will look good with this t-shirt.
I’ll be getting a few wears out of this t-shirt this summer and beyond.
