22:30 Croatia 2 – 1 Spain – REPORT
Spain went into the game knowing a draw would be good enough to secure a top spot, and made no changes to the starting 11. The game started well, with Morata scoring from a typically impressive Spain passing move. There were some shaky moments from the defence, with David De Gea and Sergio Ramos making mistakes. Croatia attacked Spain rather than sitting back, and got a goal right before half time. The 2nd half was much of the same, with Spain having most of the possession, but Croatia playing well, attacking and having a good share of the game. Spain tried to steady the ship, and took off Nolito for Bruno to keep things tight. Morata went off for Aduriz, but it was not effective and Spain could not get him into the game. David Silva won a penalty, Sergio Ramos stepped up, I guessed he would go down the middle, and so did the ‘keeper, saving although he came off his line around 3 yards. Croatia broke late in the game and Perisic beat De Gea with a low shot at his near post, this should have been saved.
Croatia topped the group with Spain 2nd. Croatia will have to wait until tomorrow to find out who they’ll play, with Spain knowing they’ll have to face Italy on Monday, and then possibly Germany in the Quarter Finals, with possibly England or France in the Semis.

Del Bosque started with De Gea in goal which was a surprise, as well as Morata up front and Nolito part of the attack with Silva. Spain had possession and chances in both halves, with Czech Rep. only defending for virtually most the match. Spain had all the running, more corners and were the only team in the game, but could not convert the chances into a goal. Finally in the 87th minute, an Iniesta centre found the head of Pique who scored and made it 1-0. Czech Rep. finally had to come out and play, and had one small chance which David De Gea saved easily. A deserved 1-0 win for Spain.

England got the game off to a good start and dominated the game. They had virtually all the run of the game, all the possession and kept the ball really well. However they went in at Half Time 0-0, not taking any of the chances they had. The 2nd half was much of the same, England dominance without scoring, until Eric Dier scored from a good free kick. Russia were poor, very poor, one of the worst performances I’ve seen at a Euros final. They were as bad as England were good, and made England look like world beaters. It looked all over, but in the 92nd minute a ball came in after a corner, Berezutski towered above Rose and looped a header in, with a Russian on the line to make sure. The game ended 1-1, but it must feel almost like a defeat for England.

Today there’s three games, first up we have Albania vs Switzerland, then Wales vs Slovakia, and finally England vs Russia. Here’s my predictions:
Albania 0 – 3 Switzerland
The Swiss have tournament experience, they have some good players who could go out and shock at the Euros, and will be too strong for debutants Albania.
Wales 2 – 2 Slovakia
Both Wales and Slovakia looked good in qualifying, and I can see this being a score draw with both teams not wanting to lose at this early stage.
England 2 – 1 Russia
My head is telling me this will either be a drab performance from England, or they’ll run out 4-0 winners against a poor Russia and get everyone’s hopes up. Russia have a depleted squad, with no Dzagoev or Denisov in midfield which will be a miss.

The Euros have finally begun, and France got off to a winning start, beating Romania 2-1. It looked a bit dodgy for the French, Romania had an early chance from a corner, and France looked a bit shaky. They went 1-0 up through Giroud, only to concede a penalty, where Stancu scored. France saved the best for last, Dimitri Payet scored a world class screamer in 89 minutes, and France won the game.
