One of the best designer fragrance brands out there has to be Hugo Boss.
I’ve owned so many bottled from BOSS, and still continue to wear them and buy new scents from the brand.
They have aftershave for every occasion, and I have quite a collection that I’ve built up over the years.
But which are the best, and which could I do without?
These are the best Hugo Boss fragrances you can wear right now.

Boss Bottled Absolu Parfum Intense
The latest brand new fragrance from Hugo Boss, and it’s a good one. Boss Bottled Absolu Parfum Intense could be the best fragrance Hugo Boss has produced, it’s that good.
I was really impressed with this scent, which is intoxicating, inviting and a top men’s aftershave.
Absolu Parfum Intense could be the best fragrance of 2024.
Smoky, leathery and dark, it’s a niche quality men’s scent at a designer price.
Top Notes – Incense, Leather
Heart Notes – Myrrh, Patchouli
Base Notes – Cedarwood, Davana
Hugo Boss Bottled EDT
The original and some would say best, it’s Boss Bottled EDT.
Boss Bottled EDT is one of the classic, timeless and inoffensive fragrances that’s came from the Bottled line from Hugo Boss.
It was actually not the first bottle I owned from the line, and when I got it as a gift, I actually got a collectors edition 50ml bottle, rather than the standard classic bottled.
What’s so special about it? It’s citrus, fresh, and has light woody notes that smell so good.
It’s a good all round fragrance that you can wear each and every day. If there’s one signature scent from Hugo Boss, this one would be it.
Top Notes – Apple, Bergamot, Cinnamon.
Middle Notes – Tagete, Geranium, Clove.
Base Notes – Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Olivewood.
Best season to wear – All
Scent type – Warm, Spicy, Woody, Fruity
Hugo Boss Bottled Eau De Parfum
If you want something super sweet, Boss Bottled Eau De Parfum is the one to get.
I bought this one as soon as it was released back in 2020, without even trying it out. I was kind of surprised with the scent.
As mentioned it’s sweet, there’s a lot of the apple as with the EDT, but this one just smells a lot sweeter. There’s bergamot and cardamom which you can smell, but the overall scent profile of this is sweet.
One of my followers on Instagram actually sent me a message saying “I wish I had of read your review before buying a 200ml bottle!”. I don’t think he’s a fan of this scent.
For me, it’s a nice and interesting scent, and I don’t mind spraying a sweet scent every now and then. I save this for summer when I want that sweet fruity smell.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Apple Accord
Middle Notes: Cardamom, Sage
Base Notes: Olive Wood Accord, Vetiver
Hugo Boss Bottled Parfum
When it comes to something a little bit darker, the Boss Bottled Parfum fills that void very nicely. It was released back in 2022, and I got myself a bottle of this.
It’s a really inviting style of scent, with mandarin and incense at the top of the smell. The hints of woodsy notes are quite subtle, and it’s a good masculine fragrance.
I save this one for the evenings, especially in the colder months such as autumn.
Top Notes – Mandarin, Incense
Heart Notes – Orris, Fig Tree Roots Accord
Base Notes – Cedarwood, Vegetal Leather Accord
Boss Bottled Elixir
The latest iteration from the Bottled line, Boss Bottled Elixir is the strongest and darkest scent which was released in 2023.
It has a similar style to the Parfum, with cardamom and incense, with the Elixir having labdanum rather than leather. It has a warm amber style to it, with a real woody feel to it.
I enjoy wearing Bottled Elixir in the cold months on a winter’s evening.
Top Notes – Incense, Cardamom
Heart Notes – Vetiver, Patchouli
Base Notes – Cedarwood, Labdanum
Hugo Boss Bottled Oud
The one for Oud lovers, Boss Bottled Oud is masculinity in a bottle. Released in 2015, when I got this scent I really liked it, and I still do to this day.
If you like oud then I would say that this is the best value oud fragrance in a bottle you can get. Oud fragrances are notoriously expensive, but Bottled Oud is definitely one of the more affordable choices you can make.
It’s got that super strong wood smell that you are immediately hit with.
It lasts quite a long time, and if you’re looking for that super dark woody smell, this is the one to go for.
Top Notes – Citrus, Apple
Middle Notes – Cinnamon, Saffron, Clove, Labdanum
Base notes – Agarwood (Oud), Sandalwood
Hugo Boss Selection
One of my favourite secret scent, Hugo Boss Selection smells amazing! I say it’s a secret because not too many people talk about this fragrance, and it doesn’t seem to have got much love over the years.
It was released in 2007 and I got a bottle after trying it out in store. It’s a fresh green citrus type of scent that smells really sophisticated. I love wearing this in spring, it just has that special something that makes you smell good when you wear it.
Since it wasn’t too popular and is now old you can pick it up fairly cheap. That makes this fragrance a one to get if you’re looking for a daily scent.
Top Notes – Pink Pepper, Grapefruit, Orange, Bergamot
Middle Notes – Geranium, Cedar, Star Anise
Base Notes – Patchouli, Vetiver, Musk
Hugo Boss Bottled Sport
One of the most surprising fragrances from the Bottled line is Boss Bottled Sport. Why? It’s really good!
This was actually the first fragrance I bought from the line, and it’s a good one. Yet again, it’s one that not many people talk about, but they should.
The top note of grapefruit is quite a big one. The initial spray hits you with a fresh citrus type of scent, and it’s so nice.
Bottled Sport is a good every day scent that’s versatile and inoffensive. I usually wear this in spring and summer when I want an easy to wear scent.
The biggest surprise in this is the longevity. It lasts so long! I can get a full day and more from this. That’s a surprise because light fragrances such as this don’t usually last too long. This one does.
Notes – Grapefruit, Lavender, Cardamom, Vetiver
Hugo Boss Bottled Night
For years this was one of the fragrance I wore most often on a night out, it is of course Boss Bottled Night.
Bottled Night just has that guys night out smell that really stands out and is so inviting. I don’t wear this all too often now, but when I got this back in 2010, I wore it on so many nights out.
The woody, lavender and musky types of notes really shine through.
It’s still a good fragrance and holds a lot of good memories for me.
Since it’s been around for a long time, you can usually get this for a good price too.
Notes: Lavender, Birch, Violet, Woods, Musk
Hugo Boss Bottled Unlimited
They ironically said that this was limited edition when it was released, but it seems 10 years on you can still get this. It is Boss Bottled Unlimited.
When you first spray this you’ll think, this is brilliant. It’s a fantastic green style of scent that’s perfect for spring and summer. The sandalwood and pineapple really shine through, and you’ll love to wear it.
The downside? The longevity. It’s so bad. I get 2-3 hours with this and then it’s gone. It’s such a shame for this scent for it to have poor longevity.
The scent profile for these styles of scents can be less than the darker scents, but even with that said, this doesn’t last too long.
A good scent if you want a spritz and smell good for a short period of time, but it’s not going to last a full day.
Top Notes – Iced Violet Leaves
Middle Notes – Pineapple
Base Notes – Sandalwood, Musk
Hugo Boss Element
Another scent from Hugo Boss that goes under the radar, Hugo Boss Element is a good scent. When it comes to wanting a light, fresh and aquatic scent, Boss Element is the one to go for.
This is an older scent, which was released in 2009, but is still a good fragrance to own today. I prefer to wear this one in spring and summer when I want something light, breezy and easy to wear.
With the scent profile being aquatic and watery, the longevity isn’t too great, but I can get 3 or 4 hours with this one.
Top Notes: Citrus notes, Watery notes
Middle Notes: Coriander, Ginger
Base Notes: Cedar, Musk
Hugo Boss Soul
When it comes to an aromatic, warm spicy scent, Hugo Boss Soul is the one to go for.
Once again it’s an older scent, and was released back in 2005. I actually bought this one when I was in the airport in Reykjavik after trying it out and liking it.
It’s not a super heavy hitting scent, rather a more soft and subtle fragrance that has soft woods, musk and a warmth to it. It’s masculine without being having that strong presence.
It’s got quite a small niche fan club to this one, being discontinued it’s hard to find, with bottles turning up on re-sale sites for big money.
Top Notes – Mandarin, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Anise, Cardamom
Middle Notes – Nutmeg Blossom, Lavender, Coriander Seeds, Cinnamon
Base Notes – Vetiver, Vanilla, Tonka, Amber, Musks, Tamboti Wood
HUGO Red Hugo Boss
Another discontinued Boss scent, Hugo Red by Hugo Boss was not the most popular fragrance, but I do own a bottle.
I always found that to have quite a metallic type of scent at the top, which was always a little strange. It’s also quite dry and powdery, and has slight citrus notes to it too.
It’s one which I rarely wear, and since it’s discontinued it’s not going to be one I’ll be re-buying.
Hugo Red is an OK scent, but I would leave it at that. It’s not horrible, but it’s not a scent I’d put in any best of categories.
Top Notes: Grapefruit, Metallic Notes, Pink Pepper, Galbanum
Middle Notes: Cedar, Rhubarb, Metallic Notes, Pineapple
Base Notes: Amber, Tonka Bean
And there you have it, the best Hugo Boss fragrances you can buy and own.
There’s no doubt that it’s a good designer fragrance house, with plenty in terms of notes and fragrance types.
There’s a signature scent in the original Boss Bottled, along with something for the evening with the Elixir or Parfum, and a great pick would be Selection.
