One of the most loved luxury fashion brands for fragrances has to be Dior.
Many consider Dior as a designer fragrance house, producing a good quality scent at an affordable price. I’ve had my fair share of Dior aftershaves in my lifetime, from the old school classic Dior Fahrenheit to the most loved modern scent, Dior Sauvage.
There have been a few more in between, and I have owned a some of them. Here’s a look at what I own, and everything you need to know about them.
These are the best Dior fragrances you can buy today.
Dior Sauvage EDT
Dior Sauvage is a fragrance in itself. I mean it’s just amazing, and it’s no secret. Almost everyone has heard of Sauvage, and if they don’t own a bottle themselves, they’ll know someone who does.
I got my bottle of Dior Sauvage EDT in the year it came out, and I’ve never looked back. I loved it the day I got it, and I still love it now.
It may be almost 10 years old being released in 2015, but it still holds up as a brilliant fragrance today.
Dior Sauvage smells incredible. It’s a fresh spicy style of scent, with bergamot, geranium, lavender, pepper and vetiver shining through with that special ingredient, Ambroxan.
That’s the key note which makes this one of the best compliment getting fragrances for men you can own.
Sauvage EDT sparked a number of flankers, including an EDP, Parfum and of course the Elixir.
It’s suited to everyone, but when it comes to the Sauvage line, it’s the most youthful one.
Notes – Bergamot, Ambroxan, Geranium, Pepper, Lavender, Vetiver, Patchouli
Sauvage EDT Pros And Cons
Pros
- Incredible smell
- Gets lots of compliments
- Fantastic longevity, performance and projection
Cons
- Very popular means it’s not unique
Dior Sauvage Elixir
The latest iteration from the line that so many love, of course I am talking about Dior Sauvage Elixir. Just like it’s older brother, I got this one when it was released back in 2021 for Christmas.
Whereas Sauvage EDT is youthful, Elixir is more refined, more grown up and better suited to a gentleman.
This is one for the evening, going out to expensive bars and clubs, I’m thinking rum bars, gin bars and the like. It feels like it compliments a suit, and is a mature style of scent.
It’s warming woods are complimented with lavender, amber and liquorice, along with notes of Cinnamon, Cardamom, Nutmeg and Grapefruit.
If you’re looking for a grown up scent, the Elixir version of Sauvage would be a good choice.
Top Notes – Grapefruit, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Cinnamon
Middle Notes – lavender
Base Notes – Sandalwood, Liquorice, Patchouli, Amber, Vetiver
Sauvage Elixir Pros And Cons
Pros
- Very nice smell
- Suited to older guys
- Fairly unique
- Gets compliments
- Good longevity
Cons
- The most expensive from the Sauvage line
- Despite being the Elixir it doesn’t last as long as the EDT
Dior Homme Intense
When you want a really inviting scent to warm you up from the house of Dior, Dior Homme Intense is a great choice. One of the best things about it? It’s not too mainstream.
If you read the reviews on this one or look at the fragrance influencers, many know that it’s good. But when it comes to the mainstream, it’s not got as much of a following as Sauvage.
That’s only a good thing, because it means you’ll not only smell good, but unique too.
Dior Homme Intense was released back in 2007, I got this in 2012 and it’s considered by many to be a modern classic. If you smell it, you’ll know why.
It’s a very masculine scent, but it’s refined. The soft woods, vetiver at the base with vanilla that gives it a sweet and inviting smell make this one a winner.
Top Notes – Lavender
Heart Notes – Iris, Ambrette seed
Base Notes – Virginia cedarwood, Vetiver, Vanilla
Dior Homme Intense Pros And Cons
Pros
- A nice warm smell
- Smells like a sophisticated gentleman
- Not too popular, giving it that unique factor
Cons
- Does not last as long as you’d like
- Does not have that wow factor
Dior Fahrenheit Absolute
One of the most classic fragrances Dior has ever produced was Fahrenheit, the original being released in 1988. It was one of those fragrances that everyone my age had in their late teens and early 20’s, it was a super strong masculine scent.
Fast forward to 2009, and Dior released an updated version, Dior Fahrenheit Absolute. I got a bottle a few years later, and it still possesses all the same DNA as the original.
Fahrenheit Absolute is a super masculine and manly fragrance, with dark smoky notes and an overall warm smell.
The Oud and Incense really stand out in this one, making it an old school style aftershave suited best to older guys.
Top Notes – Violet
Middle Notes – Myrrh
Base Notes – Oud, Incense
Fahrenheit Absolute Pros And Cons
Pros
- Incredibly strong scent
- Brings back memories of the 90’s
Cons
- Can be overpowering
- It has the old school style scent, rather than modern
And there you have it, the best fragrances from the house of Dior that you can buy. I think there’s no doubt that the Sauvage line is one of the best that Dior have produced, and certainly the most popular. But if you want to break from that and still smell like Dior, I highly recommend Dior Homme Intense.
Let me know what you favourite fragrance from Dior has been.
