10 years ago…10 YEARS AGO!!!
I cannot believe that it has been 10 years since Spain won the World Cup!
If you didn’t already know, I am a Spain supporter, and have been since I was a kid. The pinnacle in the football world is winning the World Cup, and finally, on 11th July 2010, Spain won their first World Cup!
Time has flown by…
It’s one of those situations that kind of feels like yesterday, but it also feels like an entire lifetime away, and in some ways, it is. 10 Years has been such a long time.
It’s taken me from my mid 20s to mid 30s, with 10 years of fun and experiences along the way. The good thing for me is that I’ve been blogging for just as long, so most of my journeys have been posted on the blog. It’s been a great time.
I took this photo the day before the first game…Spain vs Switzerland. I will always remember the hope and expectation, but also the worry of the World Cup. Spain had won Euro 2008 a few years before, and now there was slightly more expectation than usual.
What happened? Spain lost!
Spain would have to do the impossible. No team in the history of the World Cup has lost their opening game and won the trophy. It was a worrying time.
But we all know what happened, Spain did win the World Cup.
To celebrate, I designed and made this t-shirt the day later. Of course before making it, It was a nice of partying and drinking, watching Spanish TV and all of the celebrations.
Everyone in the entire country was out all night in the streets, and then again the next day for the parade which was brilliant to watch.
The whole Spain squad and manager Vicente Del Bosque went around Madrid on a bus, showing off the trophy to over 500,000 people, as well as the Prime Minister and Royal Family.
Adidas finally released the World Cup Winners T Shirt, which I bought and have kept, and that’s what I’m wearing in the main image today, 10 years later!
The year 2010 was Spain’s turn to win the World Cup. It just was. Everything came together, the team was the best in the world, the squad was the best in the world. It was the greatest Spain team and squad in history, and it lived up to expectation.
Years later Spain created a museum of all of the accomplishments and the history of the Spanish national team. When I found out about it I immediately wanted to go, and I was lucky enough to go!
The “Cuidad Del Futbol” is in Madrid, which is one of the main reasons I went to Madrid, and it was such a cool place for any football fan to go. It’s also where the national team train, and is an entire complex focused on the national team.
I have tons of photos, but of course one with the World Cup (along with the European Championships from 2008 and 2012).
So there we have it, 10 years of time has been and gone. It has been a good 10 years.
